Being A Student in Liverpool

Liverpool is home to five major universities with a combined total of approximately 50,000 students. Because of the strong student presence, the city has evolved to meet their needs, making it one of the most student-friendly cities in the UK. It is a lively, welcoming city with excellent transport links, a comparatively low cost of living and plenty of opportunities to work and play.

Liverpool is a bustling city with a lot to do outside of the lecture hall. Birthplace of legendary British band, The Beatles, it remains an epicentre for music, arts and culture. With a wide array of theatres, museums and art galleries all regularly hosting world-renowned performances and exhibitions, you can be sure of expanding your perspective when you become a student in Liverpool.

Liverpool & Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool is a city with a rich history. It boasts Europe’s oldest Chinatown, Britain’s biggest cathedral and the world’s first inner-city railway. The city’s world-first wet dock, a memento of its maritime past, is sadly hidden below ground now, but the city’s sea-faring links remain, with its Royal Albert Dock being among the most-visited free tourist destinations in North West England, although it is now home to restaurants and shops rather than ships.

Liverpool Hope University was first established in 1844 and has since become one of the most intensive research and teaching establishments in the country, earning a Silver rating in the UK Government's Teaching Excellence Framework in 2023.

It is one of five major universities in the city, the others being the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

About Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool Hope University is set across two campuses within the city of Liverpool. The Hope Park campus is situated within the Childwall area of the city and the Creative Campus is right at the heart of the city centre.

The University is founded upon Christian principles and is the only ecumenical University in the UK, having been formed by the amalgamation of three teacher training colleges - St Katharine’s College, which followed Anglican principles and Notre Dame and Christ’s College, which were Catholic institutions.

Named after a prominent road joining Liverpool’s Anglican and Catholic cathedrals, Hope University’s establishment was made possible by the coordinated effort of Anglican Bishop David Sheppard and Catholic Archbishop Derek Worlock.
